End of April Amigos

I feel worse than I've felt all week. I thought I was getting better, but when I walked in the door after work I collapsed onto my couch.

On a brighter note, my buddy came back to the office today, someone else offered to stick their feet in my mouth and someone else told me that I was their one and only baby girl. Of course all of this is lies because I don't actually have any office friends, right Aimee? Just kidding. It all happened.

I became fascinated by birds today. I want to paint them all:

April #29 - Swine Flu

I came home sick from work today. I've been laying around in my Christmas themed pyjamas all afternoon. I just sat on the front step with my dogs and the wind was blowing something fierce, but it was nice and my hair fanned around my face.

I have to pay my taxes tomorrow. I'll probably be listening to a lot of Art Brut. He puts me in a nice mood. Speaking of music, I have to send my iPod back to get a new one again. That's the second one this year. This guy came in today with a lottery ticket that his dog had chewed up. I thought, "That would be just my luck."

The birds congregated on the roof
While in the sun I sat aloof
One by one they fly and go
I wonder what it is they know
And soon the sun sets down on me
I need to go and let them be.

I'm still waiting for summer. Also, I wish Keith Mars was my dad.

April #27 - Mashed Brains.

I feel like shit today. I woke up with a foggy head and cold hands. If I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, I wouldn't. I just want to stay in my house with my sweet new teapot and throw blanket.

August #24 - Hotdog

I was called a tease today.
I ate a chicken sandwich at lunch and the pickles fell on the floor.
Someone sent me a video about a woman who gave CPR to a chicken.
I watched celebrities fall down. A lot.
I cried. From laughing too hard.
I bought a scratch 'n' win. I scratched and lost.

I went for a bike ride tonight to clear my head. Focusing on the wind in your hair helps. I feel like riding my bike for hours and hours (or more realistically minutes and minutes) until my legs are spaghetti and I fall to the floor.

April #21 - Spring Roll Incident

My internet is broken at home. I'm at the office late. Very late.

More tomorrow. Going to see Weakerthans! Tomorrow I will learn to save people from choking! Yay.

April #20 - Cheap Red Wine

Today was one of those perfect spring days where you drive around with your window rolled down and your hair flies all around your face, but it doesn't even matter because you just don't give a shit. It's spring.

Had another monumentally effortless day at work. Drew a perfect mushroom. Watched people walking by the door. Ate my sandwich in the car on the ride home at lunch. Laid out in my bed with the window open and swished around in my cool duvet. Went to the chiropractor after work. Talked about polygamy, AC DC, Barack Obama, curling, foreign lovers. Used words like hooped, rank and balls out. I love going to the chiro. It makes my heart skip and my back align.

I'm just feeling lovely today is all. I watched this really something* performance Bob Dylan gave on the Johnny Cash show of the song I Threw It All Away. On a semi-unrelated note, did you know that Shel Silverstein wrote A Boy Named Sue? I didn't, but now I do.

This quite possibly might be the cutest thing ever:*Like how John K. Sampson always sings with his eyes closed. Earnest?

April #19 - Blacked Out Teeth

Yorkton was so much fun yesterday. I love hanging out with my family, although sometimes I can give or take a member of two. We got there around noon, so obviousely the first thing my Grandma did was feed us. This lasted about seven hours if you count the grazing stages of eating.

We went to the thrift store where I bought some sweet scarves, and then we were kicked out. We went to this other store where I bought some clothes from SJP's Bitten line. I'm totally in love. Afterwards we went back to the apartment and grazed some more. By supper I was pretty full, but it was supper and we were all expected to eat again because it was supper, so we ate some more. Ate too many pieces of cake and went back to Grandma's house.

It's kind of a mini tradition that we always whip out the old photo albums of when my Grandma was younger and let me tell you, she's a freaking babe. I love looking at old photographs. Everyone is always dressed to the nines, everything they do looks glamorous and you learn new things about your family. There was one picture of my Grandma cuddled up beside this guy and they're both smiling really big. I asked who he was and she just said, "Old flame". Who knew?

You make my heart sing

April #17 - Ore More Years

Today at work, I hardly lifted a finger. I literally sat at my desk all day and read blogs, looked at pictures and watched funny videos. This man definitely made me laugh.

I want to sleep for three days and then wake up, read for a couple of hours and fall back asleep again. Road trip to Yorkton tomorrow... yay.

April #16 - I'm Going To Regret This Tomorrow...

I've had such a busy day.
Someone told me my eyes were pretty.
I returned my bike and bought the same bike, only better. This seems like it was easy, but it actually took about two and a half hours, one brother, one truck, one pizza, a shitload of begging, two teenage boys, a ditzy girl, three Canadian Tires and a very nice knowledgeable Canadian Tire employee to accomplish. Sigh, at least it's over and I have my bike.
I haven't been home for thirteen hours.
Kristy just phoned and we're going to Lindsay's to play SuperQuiz.
I should probably just stay home, watch Project Runway and go to bed early.
I've stayed out until at least ten every work night this week, which doesn't sound like much, but I almost never go out during the week.
I'm going to a concert tomorrow night.
I'm going to Yorkton this weekend, for real.

April #14 & 15 - Eventful Edition

I forgot to write yesterday because I was too busy living. I also forgot to watch Project Runway, but that's an entirely different story.I feel like I only ever talk about when I have financial woes, or when things are falling apart, so I will first note that I got a raise today! Go money!

Secondly, I will talk about my awesome new bike! I can already tell this blog is going to be filled with exclamation points. I picked up a sweet new cruiser today! It's the most beautiful colour of red and white. I love it with my whole being. Aimee also bought a sweet new bike, so obviousely we went for a super long, in the rain, freezing our asses off, I was in a dress, night time bike ride. It was a) very cold b) very much like we were two of the girls from Now & Then and c) very awesome.

My new bike, who's name is Mike, and I went to Kaiya's house because Matt's party was there. We didn't stay long because we had places to go and people to see. Mike decided to break down by the Fireside Bistro on 15th, so we made a pit stop. Then we made our way to Kayla and Danny's house. We rode past O'Han's at one point, and then eventually came home. Man, we're going to sleep good tonight. I'm going to bed now to thaw my bones and rest my body. This is neither me, nor my bike, just a nice picture. I have to take Mike back to the store tomorrow because of his many various ailments. Namely, he makes a weird creaking noise and the seat keeps breaking. Two things you don't want to happen when you drop some coin on a brand new bike.

April #13 - Macadamia Nuts & Hashbrowns

Uuuuhhh.

Last night turned out to be a little bit more eventful than I would have liked. I remember most everything except for the puking which is nice. I guess I should start at the beginning. I phoned Aimee and said I would be down for trivia, so she picked me up, we picked Kristy up and the three of us headed to the bar. I remember very little of the actual trivia itself, I do however remember being asked several times if I needed another drink and never saying no. I ended up having four pints, and a shot of tequilla. I think the tequilla is what did me in.

Matt drove me home and I stuck my hand out the window. At one point we had to stop the car because I thought I was going to be sick. Matt pulled over on Albert St. right before the Gordon Rd. intersection. I ran out of the car and plopped myself onto the grass. A car full of boys stopped to see if we needed help.. I think.

Aimee walked me to my door. I laid in my bed for about half an hour, then woke up next to the toilet. Apparently, even in my drunkeness I had the good sense to make it there. I peeled myself off the floor and made it back to my bed. I'm so hungover. We met some friends from Edmonton at Smitty's this morning and I gobbled down some hashbrowns (which were delicious) that helped for awhile. I have the weirdest urge to go shopping today. I'm thinking that's not a great idea.

You know what doesn't mix well? Hangovers and antipasto. That's right, I went there.

April #12 - Wet Skirt, Dirty Hands.

Today started out like every other day this weekend, my dogs licking my face at 8:30 to be let outside. I fed them, let them outside and returned to my bed for another two and a half hours. I've been having a very blah day, most of which has been spent very angry. My dogs have been being the world's biggest assholes all day. I took them for a run when I woke up and they refused to listen, jumped all over my car with their muddy paws and Sam kept biting Cooper.

I returned home later to find that one of them had taken a pillow outside and had proceeded to take out every last bit of stuffing. Our yard is currently a bit of an unkempt jungle of water and wet leaves, so I spent a good hour picking pillow fluff out of cold, shitty puddles. This is around the time it started raining. Attempted to finish raking leaves, found a dead bird which I scooped up into an empty take-out coffee cup.

My day does get better though! My mom left me an Easter cupcake on the counter, it's since stopped raining, feeling has returned to my hands, the book I'm reading keeps getting better, I'm having a great hair day, I don't have to work tomorrow and we're having Thai (sweet & sour chicken awesomeness) for supper. All's well that ends well.

April #11 - Still Sleepy I Am.

If I was a bigger person, who didn't have a bunch of stuff to do this morning, I would totally write this entire post how Yoda speaks. One of my favorite characters Yoda is. He's so freaking adorable! Is it condescending to call him that, what with his being thirty-nine thousand years old and some kind of awesome jedi alien? Anyway, I'm going to stop talking about Star Wars now before everyone discovers that I'm a huge nerd. Oh wait...

I think I injested the better part of an animal yesterday. I ate SO much food. I brought pizza over to Kayla and Danny's at 5:00 and then we went for Chinese food around 9:00. I couldn't have brought myself to eat another delicious spring roll if I had wanted to. We watched the first three Star Wars movies, and today we're watching the last three.

Fortune Cookie of the Day: Try something new and different. You will like the results.*

*I take this to mean Star Wars.

April #10 - Peace in Space

Sufjan Stevens, I've found, has a surprisingly masculine voice for being such a girly singer. Mmm... Sufjan Stevens. His religiousness is sort of off putting, but his face makes up for it.

I watched Austin Powers: Goldmember today. Hero from Heroes was in it talking about Godzilla.

I know it's lame to talk about the weather, and almost everyone who reads this blog is currently located in the same city as me, but it is so blustery and ugly outside. Things keep blowing against my house and scaring my dogs. We went out for a run earlier and it was a bloodbath of gophers. It was very unsettling and happened so fast that I couldn't do anything about it.

Dogs: 5
Gophers: 0

Off to buy pizza and watch Star Wars. Yes, I'm this big of a nerd, but I've never seen them before so that has to count for something, right?

April #9 - Watercolour Mayhem

Was supposed to go out tonight, but then around 7:30 had the urge to paint with watercolours. I have never in my life had this urge before, so I figured I better go with it. Picked up Aimee and bought some paints and paper. Started painting and remembered why I hate it, because I'm horrible. It was still fun though.

Favorite moment of the evening was when Aimee was trying to figure out her camera. The display wasn't showing up, so she had to put her eye up to the camera to frame shots. She did this once and said, "Wow, it's exactly like I see it." Priceless.

This just in, cookies rock.

April #8 - Sunshine, Lollipops.

Cathy at work, who is probably the closest person to my age, brought me tulips today in a cute little vase. It was very sweet.

I trained my new cover girl. A lot of jokes were had that she wasn't a covergirl, so much as a cover lady. Har har. Seriousely though, she seemed nice and simple office things like faxing and emailing didn't send her into a tizzy, so she's okay in my books.

I went to the library today and picked up some sweet, sweet literature. I've been reading so much lately. In the past four months, I've read more books than the last two years combined. That's sad. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Pocket contents:
- a spoon
- a harmonica
- a popsicle stick
- a five dollar bill with a song written on it (Corb Lund reference! Anyone? Anyone?!)
- my licenseI very badly wanted to go to garage sales today. It was PERFECT weather, minus all of the muck and leftover snow. I can't want for this (Legendary) summer to be upon us.

April #7 - Islands in the Sun.

I finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns today. Man, that was a good book.

A friend of my mom's is having a garage sale at the beginning of next month so I'm packing all of our useless shit into boxes. It's a stressful job. We have a lot of useless shit. A LOT. Like, I have Ninja Turtles party stuff from 1989.

My yard is becoming a pool of melted snow and leaves that I should have raked last year.

April #6 - Gigi, I Know.

I've been listening to Birdie Busch all day and I'm really liking it.

Weakerthans in fifteen days. STOOOOOOOOKKKKEEEDDD! We're totally going to get front row this year and dance our faces off. Full stop. John K. Sampson, stop making my heart swoon. The only thing that would make The Weakerthans concert better was if Jenn Grant was still opening for them. Apparently she did once.. In other Jenn Grant related news, I saw a video of her and Buck 65 singing together. It was great.

My dogs are fighting in the living room, or maybe that's just my stomach making those noises.

And I think it's alright,
If I feel both heavy and light,
Oh, put your trust in me, Mama,
And I won't lose sight.

April #5 - Go Dog, Go!

Wake up.
Try and be a supportive friend, but am extremely tired so I fail.

Wake up again.
Make French onion soup for breakfast.
Burn myself on the handle of my bowl.

Buy razors.
Watch How I Met Your Mother.
Work out.
Have dogs attack me while I attempt to work out.
Attempt to make CD's.
Epic computer fail.

Hang out at Kayla and Danny's new place.
Find THE most comfortable couch nook I've ever experienced.
Make plans for Star Wars marathons, because apparently it's crazy that I've never seen them.
Eat popcorn.

Pick-up pizza.
Drive home.
Blog.

Scene.

April #4 - Wet Towels

We went out to visit my brother tonight. Watched some Robot Chicken, went for a bit of a walk through some fields, drank tea and ate feta on crackers.

Drove slowly on the way home, just to be with my mom, the music going, laughter filling the car. It's times like these that I just want time to freeze and nothing to change.

Just watched Marley & Me. My mom thought she wasn't going to cry. Both of our eyes are scarlet, our cheeks blotchy.

April #3 - Origami Cranes

Daffodil Watch 2009 is officially over. Actually, it's been over for awhile now, I just forgot to post a picture of them in all their glory. That vase right there? One dollar. Suck it, Wal-Mart.I had a very stressful work week (i.e. press conferences, insubordinate cover women, office feuds etc.), so I decided to kick back tonight; have a bath, read a book, go to bed early. It's the best decision I've made all week.

I need to stop taking pictures with my phone.

April #2 - And Then?

Folk Fest Line-up was announced today and I'm STOKED. Iron & Wine, Corb Lund, K-os, Basia Bulat, Chad VanG, Ghost Bees... I would equate this feeling to when my mom and I used to go garage saling and she would give me a toonie to buy whatever I wanted. If you've never experienced this, it's a great feeling.

I miss spooning. You know what I don't miss? Spoons. Usually we run out of spoons first, but I bought spoons the other day so we have uber amounts of spoons.

I'm off to Canadian Tire to buy mugs! My mom bought some the other day and they're so cute that I'm buying them for my box of move out stuff. Also, they're on the cheap, which is my second favorite part of them.

April the First.

Today is post one of April. I'm going to post every day this month.

I'm currently sitting in the dark of my room, eating mini eggs and basking in down time. I was supposed to be cleaning my car and doing laundry, but I did it all yesterday. I just got back from the library where I picked up thirteen cd's:

1. The Ditty Bops (To replace the copy I lost when my iPod died)
2. Before Sunset/After Sunset Soundtrack (have I told you lately that I love you Julie Delpy?)
3. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
4. Birdie Busch - The Ways We Try (because it had pretty cover art)
5. Mott the Hoople - Mott
6. Bach at Bedtime (to drown out the crying babies and obnoxious businessmen on the bus when I'm trying to read)
7. The Big Chill Soundtrack (because I won't be hearing enough of this during lunches at the bookstore this summer)
8. Essential Beethoven (see #6, also because I've always really liked Beethoven)
9. Music from Gilmore Girls
10. Neil Young - Greatest Hits (Usually not a fan of greatest hits albums, but they are all really good songs that my iPod lacks)
11. Jay Pea - Arrivals and Departures (Again, pretty cover art)
12. Alanis Morisette - Jagged Little Pill (Because we talked about irony the other day)
13. Jose Gonzales - Veneer

Also, I have a parking spot until the 20th. Huzzah!
