Last Night.

Definitely goes down in the books as top ten of my favorite nights ever. It's not even that it was a super exciting night. Actually, the night was fairly mediocre, up to and following Josh Ritter, but while he was on stage it was mind blowingly awesome, so it bumps the rest of the night up.

All of my favorite concerts had really lame openers.
Favorite concerts that I have had the pleasure of viewing in the past six months. I'll narrow it because I could go on ALL day. In order of awesomeness:

1. Shout out to my boys Cuff the Duke, when they were at Amigos. They never let me down. Also, Best. Encore. Ever. No word of a lie. I mean come on, Wayne Petti actually said, "OK, now you guys are going to be the ho's. Literally, I don't mean that in a derogatory kind of way." And then he continued to rock my face off via playing a Mexican Wrestling Song, or something to that effect. This was the exception to the bad openers. Land of Talk opened for them and they were really awesome, although I like them better the first time I saw them at home... the week prior to this show.

2. Josh Ritter last night at The Exchange. I fucking love that man. I would share a sleeping bag and Vick's VapoRub with him anytime. Tap-able to the extreme. Not because he's overly good looking, although he is sort of adorable, but because he has fantastic lyrics. Kenzie last night summed it up perfectly in one word, contagious. He was completely contagious! I was in such a good mood last night, the air was full of electricity and I got my dance on. I used to be really embarassed about dancing in public, but the last couple of shows I've gone to have been dancy shows and I cut many rugs. Anyway, Josh Ritter is beyond. I think this might be tied for best concert ever. The only slightly unfortunate thing was Emm Gryner. Don't get me wrong, I thought she was okay, but it would have been more fun to have a giddy opener to get us in the mood. Although maybe her being somber was a good thing because then Josh Ritter was just ten times better.
3. Built to Spill when they played at Louis'. They rocked my face off as well. They may not have had witty banter, but what they did have was a huge beard, which made up in full. Actually they had a lot of beards. My favorite thing that I remember about that concert was Doug Martsch's "Thank You" after every song. His voice is really THAT high. It sounds like someone constantly has his balls in a vice, or he's on a helium IV drip. I think the opener was call "Black Attack" or something, they were horrible. And they played FOREVER.
4. Holy Fuck at the Exchange last week. The first opener was really good, the second was too much fog machine and lights display. I very seriousely contemplated going home when they came on, but am glad I didn't because Holy Fuck was amazing. This was probably the first show where I was like, "Fuck it. I'm dancing. Everyone else looks weird too."
5. The Boxing day show. I think this is the best Rah Rah has ever played. It was awesome. Also you can't go wrong when Polymaths open, unless you are Sexually Attracted to Fire, and then you can go wrong.

Honorable mentions: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Bedouin Soundclash, Feist (although that was a long time ago), The Weakerthans, and Stars (who normally I would have probably mocked less if I hadn't been in a really bad mood).

My favorite parts of the show last night were, a) when Josh Ritter talked about potatoes in his basement fighting it out, b) when he looked into my eyes and read my soul, or really just looked into my eyes, c) his adorable smile and sweatiness, d) the drummer's drumming face which was him baring his teeth like a snake and e) seeing my cousin Roxanne.
